Easter

jillian wasn't too excited about her basket after 8 am church. she needed a nap. we got to go to jeff's grandmas house for a wonderful ham dinner and an egg hunt. jillian loved to put the eggs in her basket and then take them out to throw them.
now for a few random thoughts:
i was thinking yesterday; why is it that christmas is the more celebrated holiday over easter? (i understand the hype over santa etc.) i'm speaking religiously. there are many more devotionals, more music, more everything for christmas. isn't easter what it should be all about? without the resurrection there would be no point. we would literally be in a lost state. today as i was reading the BoM, Lehi was teaching Jacob of this and how the resurrection was the key to salvation (2nd Nephi 2:8-10). after pondering my thoughts yesterday and then reading this this morning i will will now try and focus as much or more attention to the meaning of easter that i do to christmas.

AMEN! Every year I have the same conversation about this with Brian. This Easter was especially special for me because for some reason I pondered everything more. Thank you for your thoughts. The Saviors birth was a miracle, but I wish the emphasis was greater with Easter or at least the same. BTW Jillian looked very cute in her dress and I will miss her dances in primary.

holy moley Jillian looks 5 in that picture. I am guessing Christmas is more celebrated because without Christ ever being born there would be no resurrection... but that's all I can come up with! I really don't know.

I am right there with you- I have been thinking the very same thing! I do agree that without Christmas there would be no Easter- but I also think that we can and should do more in our own homes to make Easter a memorable time for reflection on the atonement. I read about a girl who loved Easter because of some of her own family traditions, and later learned a great lesson about the atonement when she had to begin celebrating it on her own. I think we can all bring that reflection and celebration of what an incredibly miraculous thing the atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ is and help ourselves and our families live to more fully appreciate the beauty of it! Ok- a bit rambly, but I agree with you completely, and took this opportunity to get some of my own thoughts out! Hope you had a wonderful Easter!

It was so good to see you guys at dinner last weekend AND at Easter. After we got home from Texas Roadhouse I think Ben's exact words were, "Jillian is so freakin' cute." Yeah that pretty much sums it up!

Mom told me about how Jillian was dancing last night at her house. The way she described it, I really would have loved to see her. I love how she acts a little shy and reserved and then all of a sudden she can't help but dance, sing and talk.

In a Christmas devo a couple years ago, someone said that "It is the miracle of his resurrection that gives a sense of wonder to his birth." or something like that. I couldn't find the exact quote. I did find this one, though, "We honor His birth. But without His death that birth would have been but one more birth. It was the redemption which He worked out in the Garden of Gethsemane and upon the cross of Calvary which made His gift immortal, universal, and everlasting." -Gordon B. Hinckley.
So we can flip it around. WIthout Easter, there wouldn't really be Christmas!
I actually like that Easter is quieter than Christmas. We can celebrate Christmas however we like with all its fun and fanfare, then settle down for some quiet contemplation at Easter.
I hope yours was excellent :).
