of wizards and vampires

i've crumbled to the peer pressure. i have began two series of novels at the same time. last week i finished the first book of harry potter and this week i finished twilight. i am #2 on the hold list for the 2nd harry potter and #192 for eclipse (i'm borrowing the second already). first of all, who would have thought that there would still be a waiting list for harry potter book 2? secondly, do you really think i'll be patient enough for 191 people to read eclipse before i want it? nope. (catilin, get to reading b/c know your mom gets it before me.) here's my critics on both, if you care:
i did enjoy harry pottery. having seen the movie first i really could visualize all the people and action. i was a fun read. i'm not particularly in love with it but i've heard the books get better and better.
i've also heard the same of the twilight books. my opinon: the first half of this book was annoying. i thought that bella was a self-loathing pitty party and edward was just creepy. as the book progressed i got more and more into it. the last half i couldn't put it down. i really enjoyed the suspense near the end. i'll admit it, i totally got into edward and his obsession with bella. i did hate the repetition of certain phrases though, such as: "promise you won't leave". ahhhhh!! if bella says this one more time i'll scream! anyway, i really enjoyed losing myself in the book. things i'd like to see in the next ones: more character development of charlie, less play on the clumsiness of bella, more with carlisle (i think i just like that name so i want to say it in my head more). after i finished twilight i was actually hoping for a movie to come out.

I can totally agree with the clinginess of Bella. One of the big things that bugs me about the whole series is how much like a drug addiction their relationship seems to be. You'll see in the next books, it gets worse. But the author is just a really good writer. Even if the story is lame or predictable, you just want to keep reading cause she's such a good writer.

that's exactly how I felt about Twilight! The second half was much more exciting.

hey if you go to stephaniemeyer.com and click on twilight then on the movie link there are pics of who the author thinks should play what roles in the movie (if one happens). it is interesting. i agree leesh - more time on carlisle.

oh, and "promise you won't leave" "i'll stay all night" "i love your rock hard chest, icy hands, godlike stature, burning eyes, tossled hair, i'm going to faint..." blah!

even though i totally am making fun of it you know that i too can't put the book down!

Erin just finished telling me about this twilight series today... I hadn't even heard of it. I guess I will have to borrow Erins when we go down to vist, sounds interesting.

Alisha- I am reading the 3rd book right now (almost done..) and the last chapter I just read was absolutely one of my favorite chapters yet. It is SOOOO romantic! (to me at least!) I never knew a book could evoke so much excitement, and make me get all twitterpated like that! If anything, those few and far between chapters make all the boring parts worth it!! The 2nd book isn't that great really, but it makes everything else better! So, get through it and you'll be glad you did so you can read the 3rd and fall in LOVE!! just kidding...

I have come to the conclusion that since I started having kids some weird things have happened to me. I have become illiterate and have a bad case of ADD. I guess you will do the reading for the both of us. I am glad you are enjoying the new books.

Ok. I loved the first book and the second was ok. I have a 25% off coupon for Borders so will go and buy the third one. One thing to keep in mind is that the books are written for younger teenaged people. Stephenie Meyer is a good writer. I like the books because every so often there's a bit of subtle humor that just makes me grin and I'll have to read that part to my husband. I also thought it made vampires much more interesting--nothing like all the old (boring) movies!

Oh, another thought that I can't believe I'm even going to write. I re-read and saw your comment about a movie. I was trying to imagine what Edward might look like (and who would play him) and I thought of my chiropractor. He has eyes that are the color of Edward's and he has very dark longer hair and I always feel like he's reading my mind! After reading this book I'm not sure I want to go back! Ha Ha.

I just finished Twilight yesterday. I loved the action in the second half of the book, and TOTALLY sympathize with your thoughts. I was a little disturbed by how easily Bella accepted Edward sleeping in her room, stalking her, being there every second when she turned around. I guess some might think this romantic, but I thought it was a little creepy. Also...Bella just seems so young to me, and I had a difficult time letting myself REALLY believe she would be so mature emotionally at times...and then at others, so dependent on him.

It was fun to relive high school and relationships during those years through this book. I think my experiences during those years colored my way of thinking about Bella. Not my all-time favorite book, but a fun read.

Alisha,

Your blog is so cute. I can't wait for mine to be spiced up a bit. It really needs it. I love that baby stage too. I love all the stages. Some are more boogery than others, but I still love all of it. I love Fossil Springs. Did you guys grow up here? Just wondering. I love all those places. It looked like fun. I haven't done something like that in forever. I loved reading about your family and seeing pictures. Awesome!
